Struggles and problems for people with ADHD

General Information

People with ADHD tend to struggle more in their day to day lives, and are meeting different challenges in different areas, for example in school. That can include:

    • Problems meeting deadlines for assignments, homework or projects because of forgetfulness, lacking time management skills and executive dysfunction.
    • Inability to focus during lectures, classes, or exams, which may cause poor grades because of hyperactivity or their struggles of keeping attention, over-stimulation and head-drive.
    • Trouble remaining still in situations where it´s inappropriate to walk around etc. This can be seen as changing sitting posture often, fickle with different objects or leave their seat during work, lectures or meetings.
    • Erratic schedules (irregular sleeping and eating times).
    • Self-distrust and difficulty regulating emotions like stress and worry.
    • Decreased self-esteem and high dissatisfaction with academic performance.
    • Difficulty working with peers on group projects.
    • Often isolated and avoiding interactions with peers, leading or poor social connections.
    • Struggles to raise their hand before speaking in class because of impulsivity and hyperactivity.
    • Losing or forgetting important items: Misplacing important items, such as homework, meeting notes and learning materials

But it is important to remember that everyone is different and has different symptoms. It´s different from person to person, age to age, and usually guys are more physical hyperactive and impulsive than women. And even though they have different struggles to deal with, do they also have different strengths as well. By accommodation in the different areas and the right help, you can minimize the struggles they experience, and build up their strengths.
